Ich frage mich schon immer ob Morten bei Hunting high and Low und Stay on these Roads Tränen hatte?

a-ha "Take On Me" (1985)
Record Label: Warner Bros.
An outstanding feat of technical innovation, "Take On Me" pulled off the impossible task of completely reversing a flop single's commercial fortunes. The original 1984 mix of "Take On Me" was ignored everywhere save for a-ha's native Norway, but a solid rerecording of the synthpop number, when paired with a stunning live-action/animated hybrid video, lead to it become not only a worldwide smash but also a-ha's signature song. Directed by "Billie Jean" mastermind Steve Barron, the video saw a-ha frontman Morten Harket and actress Bunty Bailey try to escape from a hand-drawn animated world together, with each frame painfully etched via a technique called rotoscoping. Eye-popping when it premiered, the video for "Take On Me" has taken on a life all its own, parodied and ripped-off too many times to count. The song became so popular that their follow-up single "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." was again lensed by Barron and even has a cameo of Harket's "animated" alter-ego. The band couldn't escape the legacy of "Take On Me", so they wisely went on to embrace it instead and are still recording new music up to this day.

ZitatAlles anzeigenLogan vs. A-Ha's Take on Me Is the Video Mashup You Never Knew You Needed
A mashup of the X-Men spinoff Logan and A-Ha's 'Take on Me' sees scenes from the movie brilliantly recreated with rotoscope animation.
A new video mashes up 2017's Logan with the classic music video for A-Ha's 1985 hit single "Take on Me."
The video, uploaded to 1.21 Gigawatts Productions on YouTube, sees animator Eugene Lenhert recreate scenes from the movie using rotoscope animation, a labor-intensive process in which an artist draws over live-action footage frame by frame to create realistic movement. "Do not watch this if you have not seen the movie Logan," the caption reads. "This is a Ralph Bakshi inspired rotoscoping experiment on the iPad Pro in Flipaclip."

Take on Me" was the lead single from A-Ha's debut studio album Hunting High and Low, which was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained on the charts for 27 weeks. A large part of its success was owed to its innovative music video, directed by Steve Barron, which blended live-action and animation in a story about a comic book character come to life.
Logan, loosely based on Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Old Man Logan, was advertised as the last film to feature Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, a role he had made iconic since his debut in 2000's X-Men 17 years prior. It was met with critical and commercial success and was even nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 90th Academy Awards.

29. a-ha – “Take On Me”
Date: Oct. 19, 1985
Weeks on top: 1
Thanks to the rise of MTV during the decade, many of these songs are embedded in our memories along with their videos. None more so than “Take On Me” and its legendary pencil-sketch clip. But that shouldn’t overshadow the blissful synth-pop of the song and one of the best choruses of the decade. Morten Harket hits all the right notes, even ones that few other men could hit at the time.

8: a-ha - Take On Me
Remember the children’s book about the little train engine that just couldn’t seem to get up that hill? a-ha must have taken its tale of perseverance to heart, as their signature hit went through multiple bands, titles, revisions, and releases before finally becoming one of the most memorable tunes of the 1980s.
Pre-a-ha, guitarist Päl Waaktaar and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen had a band called Bridges, with whom they wrote a song called Panorama which became Miss Eerie, and it contained a certain familiar synth riff.
After Bridges disbanded, they joined forces with singer Morten Harket as a-ha and together they did a version of Miss Eerie - now renamed Lesson One. This new version would be retitled yet again as Take On Me.
The new group recorded a demo of the tune, re-recorded it with producer John Ratcliffe, and eventually inked a deal with Warner Bros UK. After an unsatisfactory mix from producer Tony Mansfield, the song was remixed yet again and finally released to an uninterested public, reaching 137 on the UK singles chart.
At this point, Warner Brothers America offered to finance yet another version. This latest attempt was built around a LinnDrum beat, a DX7 bass, and PPG Wave. The main riff was played on a Roland Juno-60, and doubled with another synth - possibly a DX7.
WB America released this latest version along with a music video of the band performing… only to meet the same indifference.
At this point, any sane persons involved should have cut their losses. However, producer Alan Tarney gave the song a once-over and an innovative new video was commissioned from director Steve Barron. The rest, as they say...
