Presenting lily mars; Tap dancer
Soon to be a star
She'll beat your heart so fast
Spotlight's on lily tonight
She's on channel one's late night show
She's watching people come and go
Producer says "You got it made girl"
But when she's lying sleepless in his arms
The frost paints roses on poor lily's window pane
Presenting lily's mom
She still lives on in lily's mind
Stopped ageing years ago
Now she's gone and left her dreams in lily's eyes
Lily's wondering if mommy's watching her tonight
"Good morning"! says Father mars
Presenting a salesman's cheerful face
His mouth is never shut
As he strides from door to door to door to door
Watch his face as he puts his foot in my door
Presenting lily mars
She's sensing moons and stars
The pills her doc prescribed
Will keep her sleepless, dreamless life away
Oh, poor lily...Now you're sleeping day by day
Bye poor lily
Mommy's watching you tonight
They had both the pop talent as well as the ability to write darker and more “serious” compositions. a-ha was not a goofy pop band that took a more serious direction after several years – they had the weighty ambitions from the start.”
One of the previously unreleased songs is called ‘Presenting Lily Mars.’ “It’s nice to listen to songs like this again,” Paul says. “We put just as much energy into this as in the more poppy songs. It was a lot of work to record things like this on a four track recorder.”

Presenting Lily Mars
MGM, 1943 (BW, 104 minutes, Production No. 1264)
An ambitious talented girl from a small midwestern town crashes Broadway but before she triumphs she has to learn the hard way that no one becomes a star overnight. When Lily Mars catches the eye - and the heart - of a famous producer, she thinks she has it made, especially when the star of the show walks out in a fit of temperament. But Lily has to face the hard reality that she isn't ready for stardom - for a while.
