HMV has this to say about the upcoming a-ha in-store appearance:
"You can always tell when an in-store event is going to be big from the number of calls and e-mails you start receiving weeks in advance - and this one's going to be huge!"
"It wouldn't surprise me if there were shades of Aha's first ever HMV in-store signing back in January 1986, which brought Oxford Street to a temporary standstill. Twenty years on, the fans may be a little older, though no less excitable, and but we expect the store to be just as rammed."
There has even been some media interest in the event, as HMV says it is the most popular they've had in years.
Fans can participate in a poll in the Minor Earth Forum to vote for which songs they think a-ha should play. The results of the poll will be forwarded to the band for consideration, so cast your vote here:

Update:
The store will issue 400 wristbands in total to fans on the day of the event from 8.30am, January 30 2006, on a first-come-first-served basis, one wristband per person only, no reservations, subject to availability. Fans should queue in Adam & Eve Court (an alley to the side of the HMV store), where the official queue will be based for the distribution of wristbands.
HMV will issue 400 wristbands only. This number cannot be increased because of Health & Safety reasons.
Those who obtain a wristband will be in a cordoned off area in front of the stage to watch the band's performance, and afterwards will be guaranteed to meet the band. ONLY those with a wristband will meet the band.
The store will still be open to people without wristbands who are doing their shopping (unless it gets too hectic - then they will shut the store) but they will not be able to watch from the closed off area and they definitely cannot meet the band. They will, however, be able to watch it on one of the instore screens that will be showing the performance.
Because of the numbers of people involved, and the fact that everyone with a wristband will definitely meet the band, fans are advised that they will not be able to get multiple items signed as this will not leave enough time for everyone to meet them. The store has determined this policy and not the band, as they have made it clear that they want to make sure they meet everybody.

Fans flock to meet A-haEighties popstars A-ha sparked a fan frenzy today on a visit to the UK.
The Norwegian band, making a chart comeback two decades on, are signing copies of their new album at HMV in London this evening.By 8am there were 700 fans queuing outside in the cold in a bid to secure one of the 400 special wristbands which guarantee a meeting with the group.
They had travelled from as far afield as Singapore, the US, Germany, France, Italy and Russia.
Record company bosses admitted they were "astounded" by the interest.
A-ha, fronted by heart-throb Morten Harket, are back in the charts with new single Analogue, their first top 10 UK hit for 16 years.
They had a string of hits in the Eighties including Take On Me and The Sun Always Shines On TV.
The band have sold over 30 million records around the world.
They will perform some of their old hits at tonight`s in-store signing session at HMV`s flagship Oxford Street store.
HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "We have been amazed by the fans` response. This is one of our most successful in-store sessions ever."
