Quote‘I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it was him,’ she recalls. Viking – hit 80s group A-Ha’s lead singer Morten Harket – was another favourite. ‘He was so funny because when he took the helmet off he did sort of look exactly like the mask,’ she laughs. ‘And he was very serious, wasn’t he?’

QuoteDisplay MoreThe Masked Dancer costume designer details star's demands: ‘Didn’t feel comfortable’
THE MASKED DANCER begins tonight but one of the bosses behind-the-scenes has detailed how celebrities do have somewhat of a say in the costumes they're going to be hiding in as they perform on stage.
The Masked Dancer will make its debut over the next seven nights as an all-star panel of judges try to guess which famous faces are shaking their hips on the dance floor. Just like its sister series, The Masked Singer, the detectives will be given a whole array of clues as to who is performing inside of the crazy and quirky costumes. However, the man behind the elaborate ideas, Tim Simpson, has explained how the contestants taking part in the ITV show need to feel as comfortable as they can as they’re hiding inside of the masks for quite some time.
It’s been noted before the celebrities don’t usually have a say over the aesthetic features of their costumes and their input is usually just for fittings.
As The Masked Singer has shown viewers, the characters can combine all shapes and sizes and contain lots of different elements from fur to rubber and feathers.
They can be quite weighty, however, with the famous face taking part having to put themselves in devices such as reconfigured climbing helmets to perform.
For the spin-off programme, the costumes have been made a little easier to dance in as the contestants will be moving around a lot more.
Due to this, the participants have to be included in the fittings for their costumes and they can then issue their demands over whether they will be able to perform in it.
Tim explained: “Their input is often to do with comfort, breathability, vision – vision is the big one. Sometimes we put a costume on in the workshop, and it feels like it’s got great vision.
“Then the performer puts it on and says they can hardly see a thing. Viking was really easy to see out of, and yet Morten Harket [the A-Ha lead singer who was unmasked as Viking on series two of The Masked Singer] didn’t feel comfortable in it.
"So we had to incorporate more vision. But compared with some of the other costumes…if he popped one of the other heads on, I think he might have thought he had an easy deal.
“But different people have different requirements and have different levels of comfort in the costumes,” the designer told Radio Times.

Joel Dommett has admitted that he didn't recognise Morten Harket after his identity was revealed on The Masked Singer.
The presenter, 36, said the unmasking back in January of the singer, 61, as Viking 'was the most awkward interview I have done in my entire life'.
Morten is the lead singer of Norwegian band A-ha, and famously performed the group's 1984 hit Take On Me while dressed in his elaborate costume.
Awkward: Joel Dommett has admitted that he didn't recognise Morten Harket after his identity was revealed on The Masked Singer
Joel isn't informed of the identities of the celebrities ahead of the shows, meaning he is in the dark just like the public and judges.
He told The Mirror: 'If you go back and watch it, it is very clear I have no idea who it is.
'The problem is that I don't know everyone in the world when they are revealed.
'You can guarantee the less I know them, the more energy I put into the reveal. 'I was like, 'Oh my God, it's Morten Harket!'

He said judge Mo Gilligan couldn't hold in his laughter at Joel's reaction to the big reveal as it was obvious he was baffled as to who it was.

The Masked Singer returns to ITV on New Year’s Day for a third series as a brand new group of celebrities attempt to conceal their identities while performing. Once again, viewers will not find out which stars have taken part in the show until they are unmasked but judge Jonathan Ross has teased the famous face behind one particular character.

Ahead of the new series, chat show host stalwart Jonathan opened up on who surprised him the most from the previous batch of celebrities.
He said: “Morten Harket surprised me. He sang brilliantly and I didn’t get him and I’m a big fan of A-Ha.”
“I know him off-camera a little bit and I know he’s quite a serious guy, so I kind of didn’t expect to see him on the show,” he continued.
“Even though I momentarily toyed with the idea of it being him, I thought no he absolutely wouldn’t do this.
“But you never know who it’s going to be. There’s a couple of real surprises.”

QuoteViking - Morten Harket
Viking had one of the best costumes on The Masked Singer UK so far and looked like a character fans would find in an Asterix and Obelix comic book. He also surprised the judges multiple times with his choice of songs as well as the deep and emotional way he bought them to life on the stage.
Morten Harket was the person behind this mask and he is certainly no stranger to the world of music and performing, being the lead singer of A-ha, the Norwegian band responsible for the '80s hit "Take On Me." His reveal surprised many as no one could guess him with his choice of songs and his unique singing voice. He may not have won, but he certainly conquered the stage.

Morten Harket, the lead singer of A-ha, was on once. I knew there was a lead singer of A-ha but I didn't know his name. The producers told me but I couldn't for the life of me remember. All I could think when I was interviewing him was it's not Morgan Freeman.
QuoteA fan of the show, Ricky said in a Q&A post-reveal that the Viking (Morten Harket) was an old favourite.
‘He was a much better singer than me, but everyone thought he was me, so for that I’m eternally grateful,’ he added.
